‘Let it Be’ on DVD

The Beatles’ documentary film Let it Be has been out of print since the 1980s. Reportedly, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney have been hesitant to re-release it due to the negative nature of the film. However, Starr recently mentioned in an interview with Rolling Stone that he believes a DVD release is possible.

Additionally, director Michael Lindsay-Hogg has stated that Let it Be will come out on DVD and Blu-Ray in 2013. Click here to read the interview, and keep your fingers crossed!

Jimmy Nicol

During The Beatles’ 1964 tour of Denmark, the Netherlands, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Ringo Starr came down with a high fever and tonsilitis. He had to sit out of the tour to recouperate, so The Beatles temporarily replaced him with drummer Jimmy Nicol. Starr rejoined the group in Australia after a few weeks and finished out the tour behind the kit.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

On March 17th, 1962, The Beatles played a concert at the Village Hall in Knotty Ash, Liverpool. The band played on the bill alongside fellow Liverpudlians Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, which included future Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.

Little Willow

Paul McCartney wrote “Little Willow”, a song featured on his 1997 solo album Flaming Pie, as a tribute to Maureen Starkey. Maureen, who married and divorced Beatle Ringo, died due to complications from leukemia in 1994. The McCartneys were very close with Maureen and her family, and the song was written to help ease the pain of her death.

Ringo and Russell Brand

Ringo Starr will participate in a ‘Town Hall’ interview to promote his new album RINGO 2012 with British actor-comedian Russell Brand. Music producer Don Was will moderate the interview, and Ringo will perform.

“Town Hall With Ringo Starr” will air live from Los Angeles on Jan. 30.

Maureen Starkey

Maureen Cox was a Beatles fan who frequented the Cavern Club, and later became involved with Ringo Starr. After the 18-year-old found out she was pregnant, the couple married in 1965. Their marriage began to dissintigrate around the time of the Beatles’ breakup, and the couple were officially divorced in 1975.

“It Don’t Come Easy” is a hit single released by Ringo Starr in 1971. The song was co-written by Starr and fellow ex-Beatle George Harrison. The single went on to hit #4 in both the U.S. and UK singles charts.

I Wanna Be Santa Claus

Ringo Starr released I Wanna Be Santa Claus in 1999, becoming the first former Beatle to put out a holiday-themed album. Half of the 12 tracks on the record are original songs, including the title track. The album also contains a remake of The Beatles’ song “Christmas Time (Is Here Again)”.
