You’re Going to Lose That Girl

This day in 1965, The Beatles recorded “You’re Going to Lose That Girl,” which was mainly written by John Lennon and features call-and-response backing vocals by Paul McCartney and George Harrison. The song was prominently showcased in the movie¬†Help!¬†and included on the soundtrack.

“Help!” is a song primarily written by John Lennon and featured prominently in both the film and album of the same name. Lennon revealed that the song was written during a depressed time of his life and was intended to have a slower tempo. The final version was released as a single, hitting #1 in both the U.S. and UK in the summer of 1965.

I’m Down

The Beatles released the song “I’m Down” as the b-side to the “Help!” single. The band performed the song live at the legendary Shea Stadium concert, where John famously played the organ with his elbows.

The Beatles’ song “Wait” was originally written and recording during the making of Help!, but it was not included on the album. While the band was making the follow-up, Rubber Soul, the album was one song short, so rather than recording a new track, they decided to include the leftover song.
