Fool On The Hill

Paul McCartney traveled to France to shoot a sequence for his song “The Fool On The Hill” on October 30th & October 31st, 1967. The video, which featured McCartney miming to the song while traveling through the hills around Nice, was included as part of The Beatles’ film Magical Mystery Tour.

Ocean’s Kingdom

Paul McCartney composed the music for his first ever ballet entitled Ocean’s Kingdom, which was commissioned by the New York City Ballet and premiered on September 22nd, 2011. An accompanying album of McCartney’s score was released on CD, vinyl and digitally.

I Want To Hold Your Hand

The Beatles recorded “I Want To Hold Your Hand” at Abbey Road Studios on October 17th, 1963. The song became their first #1 single in the U.S., finally breaking the band in America. It set off ‘Beatlemania’ and was performed on The Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964.

Linda Eastman

Linda Eastman, a native New Yorker and successful photographer, met Paul McCartney on May, 15th, 1967, at the Bag O’ Nails club in London. The two were eventually married and had three children. Linda McCartney passed away from breast cancer on April 17th, 1998, at the age of 56. The couple were married for 29 years.

Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?

Paul McCartney’s “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road?” was recorded on October 9th & 10th, 1968. The song was featured on The White Album. McCartney played all instruments save for drums, played by Ringo Starr, who was the only other member of the band on the track.

Paul McCartney Wedding

Paul McCartney married American heiress Nancy Shevell on October 9, 2011, making her his third wife. The ceremony was held at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London (the same location as his marriage to first wife Linda Eastman in 1969). The couple celebrated at a reception at McCartney’s home in St. John’s Wood.

McCartney was previously married to Eastman for nearly 30 years until her death in 1998, followed by a short-lived marriage to Heather Mills, which ended in a bitter divorce.

Beatles’ Ballads

The compilation album The Beatles’ Ballads was released in 1980 in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Germany, India and Australia (but not in the U.S.). The disc featured 20 of the band’s most famous love songs, with the set eventually reaching #1. Artist John Byrne (aka “Patrick”) designed the cover art, which was originally created as a possible cover for the Beatles White Album while it was still known as A Doll’s House.

Savoy Truffle

The Beatles recorded “Savoy Truffle” at Trident Studios on October 3rd, 1968, and the finished song was released on the album The Beatles. “Savoy Truffle” was written by George Harrison about his good friend Eric Clapton’s most recent addiction – chocolates.
